I had a site hosted by 1&1 for about 5 months. We ran into problems when we noticed that our site was getting slow. I think this is because we were on one of their cheaper plans and our site’s traffic was getting higher because of some advertising we were doing. Their support wasn’t very helpful besides always saying we needed to upgrade. We switched to Inmotion Hosting and have been very satisfied with them ever since. I am not saying that 1&1 is the worst host out there (I have been through several over the years), but I just wish they wouldn’t have kept trying to upsell me instead of trying to fix our situation.
They are one of the webhosting service providers who can do only a moderate job. The disk space and traffic given is not at all enough. Only individuals with a very modest blog can opt for this kind of service. I am afraid whether it will balance the traffic that am getting in my affiliate site.
I cannot tell you what ridiculous tech support is offered by 1 and 1. First, it is outsourced to the Phillipines. Second, they are kept in the dark and have no idea what is going on in the server room. So they end up telling you what you know. Like, oh yes, your server is down. But that is why I am calling. No idea when it will be fixed. No idea what is wrong with it. And finally, my ecomm site has been down for 1 week! That is a generation in cyber-world. You could buy and configure new servers and re-constitute in one day. What takes 1 week?
I agree with the other reviewers, they stink at customer support. I’m not sure they can even read English. I Email a question to a problem and get some goofy reply that doesn’t even address the problem. I’ve gone to just spending the time and trying to figure things out myself. It makes sense now that I know they are located in the Philippines.
